How to use CandL.

Getting started

  • Open a market: click the symbol in the top bar and search, or just start typing anywhere on the chart. Press / to open the search empty. Search covers every market source at once.
  • Market source: the menu beside the symbol picks where the chart’s data comes from (see Market data).
  • Interval: pick from 1 minute to 1 month, or add your own (a number of minutes, hours or days). CandL keeps up to 8 custom intervals.
  • Chart type: 22 types in four groups: bars and candles (including Heikin Ashi), lines and areas, re-binned charts (Renko, Kagi, Line Break, Point & Figure, Range) and volume profiles (Volume Footprint, Time Price Opportunity, Session Volume Profile).
  • Price scale: right-click it to switch auto-scale or percent.

Everything you set up is saved in your browser as you work.

Indicators

Open Indicators in the top bar. The Built-ins tab lists all 112 built-in indicators, most used first. Search by name, star the ones you use to keep them under Favourites, and click one to add it.

Each indicator on the chart has a row in the legend at the top left, with buttons to:

  • Hide or show it;
  • change its inputs (its settings);
  • edit its script;
  • remove it.

You can also click an indicator’s line on the chart to select it, right-click it for its menu, or press Delete to remove it.

Every indicator is a script you can read and change. Editing a built-in changes it everywhere it’s used in the workspace, and Revert to original brings back the original. The Custom tab is where you write your own: see Custom indicators.

Drawings

The toolbar on the left holds 69 drawing tools in seven groups, plus the pointers and Measure. Each group’s button shows the tool you used last; the arrow beside it opens the rest.

  • Placing: pick a tool, then click the chart once for each point. Drag to paint with the Brush. A Polyline takes as many points as you click: click its first point to close it, or double-click or press Enter to leave it open.
  • Text: Text, Note, Callout and Comment open a box to type in as you place them. Enter finishes, Shift + Enter starts a new line and Esc cancels. Double-click one of these, a Signpost or a Flag to type or change its text. Text and Note can be pinned to the screen, so they stay put while the chart moves.
  • Smart tools read the chart: Anchored VWAP draws the volume-weighted average price from the bar you pick, Smart Level marks a support or resistance zone and counts how many times price has come into it, and Volume X-Ray shows the volume profile of the range you draw. Sigma Tape measures a move and says how big it is for that market: in standard deviations, in ATRs and as a percentile.
  • Magnet: snaps points to prices on nearby bars (Weak) or always (Strong). Hold ⌘ on a Mac or Ctrl elsewhere to draw without it.
  • Editing: click a drawing to select it and drag its points. Its toolbar holds quick controls such as colours and text style, plus Settings, Lock, Delete and More (⋯).
  • Settings: every drawing has a settings dialog with what that tool needs: style, text, levels, its points’ coordinates and the intervals it shows on. Changes show on the chart as you make them; Cancel puts them back.
  • Templates: save a drawing’s settings as a template and apply it to others of the same kind, from the dialog’s Template menu or the right-click menu. Apply default puts back the tool’s default settings. Values that belong to one drawing, such as a position’s entry, profit and stop prices or Volume X-Ray’s row size, stay out of templates. Templates can also be downloaded as files and uploaded again.
  • Right-click a drawing for its menu: Template, Visual order, Visibility on intervals, Clone, Copy, Rename, Lock, Hide, Remove and Settings. Right-click an empty part of the chart to paste a drawing or clear them all.
  • Drawings belong to their market and stay where you put them, on the price chart or on an indicator’s pane.

Alerts

To set a price alert, right-click the chart at the price you want and choose Add alert at …, or click the ⊕ beside the crosshair’s price tag. The first time, CandL asks your browser’s permission to show notifications.

  • An alert goes off when the price crosses its level. CandL shows a message on the page and, if you allowed it, a notification. The alert then switches itself off.
  • Alerts run in your browser and only work while CandL is open in a tab.
  • The bell in the top bar and the Price alerts panel on the right list your alerts. Pick one to open its chart on the interval it was set on, or delete it there or by right-clicking its line.
  • Alerts are shared by all your workspaces.

Bar replay

  1. Press Replay in the top bar.
  2. Click the bar to start from. Bars after it are hidden. Esc cancels.
  3. Play (Space plays and pauses), step one bar at a time, and choose a speed from 0.5× to 10×.
  4. Go back to the start, move the start bar, or exit replay at any time.

Layouts and sync

The layout menu splits the chart area into one, two (side by side or stacked), three, four or six charts. Click a chart to make it the one the top bar controls. Within a chart, drag the line above an indicator’s pane to resize it.

Under Sync in layout, choose what the charts share:

  • Symbol: changing the market on one chart changes it on all.
  • Interval: changing the interval on one chart changes it on all.
  • Crosshair: hovering one chart shows the crosshair on all at that time.
  • Time: scrolling one chart scrolls the others to the same time.
  • Date range: all charts show the same dates.

Layout templates save a whole setup to reuse: the layout, each chart’s indicators and settings, optionally each chart’s market, the theme and the sync choices.

Workspaces

A workspace is a separate set of everything CandL saves: charts and layout, drawings, indicators and scripts, templates, watchlists and settings. Use one per idea or style of trading.

  • Create, duplicate, rename or delete workspaces from the workspace menu in the top bar. The Default workspace can’t be deleted.
  • Each browser tab has its own workspace, and the address includes it, so a bookmark opens the same workspace.

Watchlists

Open Watchlists on the right. Keep several lists, add symbols, colour-flag them, and sort or resize the columns. Click a symbol to open it on the chart.

Object tree

The Object tree and data window panel on the right lists every drawing and indicator on the chart, pane by pane and front to back. Select, show or hide, lock, rename, group, reorder or remove them, and move indicator panes up or down. The data window shows the chart’s values under the crosshair.

Snapshots

The camera in the top bar saves an image of the chart: download it, copy it, open it in a new tab, or start a social post with the image copied, ready to paste. See Keyboard shortcuts for the fastest way.

Settings and themes

  • Chart settings (the gear in the top bar): candles, chart colours, accents, behaviour and watermark. Save a set of settings as a template to reuse.
  • Theme: the button at the bottom of the left toolbar switches between Light, Dark and Midnight.
  • Drawing tools: hide or show the left toolbar from the account menu (top left).
  • Fullscreen: the button in the top bar.

Your account

You don’t need an account to use the charts. An account lets you comment on What’s new. Signing in doesn’t copy your charts anywhere: they stay in your browser. Manage your password or delete your account on the Profile page.

Market data

CandL charts crypto perpetual futures and crypto spot markets from major exchanges, and stocks, ETFs, forex and commodities from a market data provider. Markets lists every one. Data streams live where the source provides it; it may be delayed or incomplete at times. If prices stop updating, reload the page. See the Risk Disclosure.
